Gaiam will release the made for TV biopic C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia on DVD, available March 28th, 2006. This movie chronicles the life of the Oxford professor who penned the beloved fantasy tales. Filmed on location in England, it examines Lewis' life, work, friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien and the children who Lewis took in that were the inspiration for the main Narnia characters.
The docudrama premiered on the Hallmark Channel in December 2005 to coincide with the huge blockbuster release of Walt Disney Pictures' "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." As the perfect companion piece to the blockbuster film, the release of C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia on DVD will again coincide with Disney's release of Narnia on DVD.
"We are excited to bring this enlightening look at C.S. Lewis to the masses," says Sue Haney, VP of Retail Marketing for Gaiam. "Narnia is a fascinating tale that compels audiences to want to learn more, and now they can quench their curiosities with this insightful look at the creator of Narnia himself."
"In this wonderful, witty, dramatic movie, Lewis speaks to us of his life, friendship, love, spiritual journey, and his profound tales of Narnia," says Janet Stokes of the Hollywood Film Advisory Board, which recently honored C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia with its "Award of Excellence."
This stellar look at Lewis was written and directed by Norman Stone, winner of the International Emmy and two BAFTA Awards for "Shadowlands." Anton Rodgers (The Merchant of Venice, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) stars as C.S. Lewis with Diane Venora (Heat, Romeo and Juliet, and Surviving Picasso) as Joy Gresham.
Both longtime fans and new believers worldwide know the mystical land of Narnia well, but few know the genius that is creator C.S. Lewis. The engaging true-life story opens the door to Lewis' world and his life in Oxford, England where he dreamt up the magical story of The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe, and the other tales that complete the beloved The Chronicles of Narnia.
