Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American distribution rights for Francis Ford Coppola?s YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH.

Coppola wrote, directed, and produced YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH, adapting the screenplay from a novella by legendary Romanian author Mircea Eliade. YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH marks Coppola?s long-awaited return to personal filmmaking -- harkening back to earlier projects such as THE RAIN PEOPLE and THE CONVERSATION. It is his first film in a decade.

Childhood Dream Could Lead to a $1M Film Development Deal

Brian Ochab, an up-and-coming film director, has been getting Hollywood's attention. He created a dazzling short film for the new Steven Spielberg/Mark Burnett reality show "On the Lot." The show divides 16 undiscovered directors into teams who compete to finish a short film each week.

In addition to the short film, the filmmakers are also required to create a 45-second opening. "I wanted to create something completely unique. In addition to creativity, I also wanted to show that I had some resourcefulness," Ochab said.

IMPROVED CONDITIONS FOR FILMMAKERS IN MANY COUNTRIES ACROSS THE GLOBE

Economic and political situations in a number of countries across the globe have created a slightly more favorable environment for filmmakers seeking to film abroad, according to the 2007 Risks in Global Filmmaking Map produced each year by Aon/Albert G. Ruben, the world?s number one entertainment risk broker.

Of the 207 countries measured, overall risk for filmmakers in 37 countries decreased slightly from 2006 to 2007. Risk was calculated on a scale from one to five, illustrating very high, high, medium, moderate and low measures.

New Story to Hit Silver Screen

Minnie Burton was a sensation at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair: the top shooter for a girl's basketball team from an Indian School in Fort Shaw, Montana. Beating all other high school girls and boys teams, they rounded up legions of adoring fans across the nation as they won the first world championship title for basketball.

Shoot Minnie Shoot, a novel by Happy Jack Feder, has been optioned and is in development for feature film production by the Seattle office of creative and production company, Touch. The film "Shoot Minnie Shoot" is based on the true story of Basketball's First World Champions and follows the improbable journey of Minnie and this sensational Native American girls team of 1904. It is the story of one girl's vision and her struggle to bring pride back to her people.

Company Begins Shooting the Feature Film Donna On Demand

Public Media Works, Inc. has begun shooting its next feature film, Donna On Demand, starring an ensemble cast, including Corbin Bernsen, several notable Daytime Television stars, as well as newcomer Nolan Hubbard who gained the role via the "One Red Paper Clip" phenomena that swept the internet last summer. The film is being co-produced by Los Angeles-based Antibody Films, and is being shot in a 30,000 square foot soundstage in Burbank, California, where extensive sets have been constructed specifically for the film. Donna On Demand, a psychological thriller with dark comedic overtones, is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2007.
